Japanese Talk Online Hiatus [Until April 9th]

You may not know this but Japanese Talk Online is a website I run in my spare time. It was always a hobby to share my knowledge and experience of learning Japanese. This was doable when I was in University but not so much anymore. I am now a freelance Japanese – English translator and am trying to continue my own Japanese studies. I tried to take a step back before but found that I still spent a lot of time on Japanese Talk. I recently started tracking how much time I spend on Japanese Talk stuff and it’s about 10… Read More…

Japanese Talk Online Patreon

Japanese Talk Online has Patreon! I have been studying Japanese for over 10 years and began Japanese Talk in 2009 as Japanese lessons for the anime society at my university. Japanese Talk turned into Japanese Talk Online on Facebook after I graduated in 2011 and wanted to keep sharing Japanese resources and advice to society members. It then turned into Jtalkonline.com in 2013 work as a freelance Japanese to English translator. I then began the JTalkOnline Memrise course. I started with hiragana and katakana because I felt there was no adequate course online which helped people learn the alphabets through… Read More…

Explanation for Being Away

大変失礼いたしました。 Apologies to everyone, this has been the longest I haven’t done anything with Japanese Talk Online and I wanted to explain why I’ve been afk for so long. Basically I did an MA in Translation last year, which was so-so. But after I’d finished my exams I decided to try the JLPT N1. I studied intensively everyday for about 2 months and after the exam was over my brain just went on shut down. I didn’t want to touch Japanese and haven’t since the beginning of July. Which, I know is very bad and hypocritical of me. Because of… Read More…

Update

Apologies for the radio silence. Moving house, essays and translation projects have taken priority over the blog. I’m also trying to update the JLPT N1 Kanji list for memrise as that’s late too. Normal blog posts will resume at some point soon I hope! UPDATE: Posts will resume Sunday 26th April Read More…

Apologies, Updates, Changes and Plans!

Hello! Apologies for the last few weeks of radio silence everyone! Life, as always, gets in the way and as this blog and Memrise is something I do out of my own time it sometimes gets pushed down the priority list. The last few weeks which were missed (the 10th and 17th), as well as the Advanced Reading Practice I promised, will be updated this week along with this week’s post. Update days are being changed to Thursday! This is because Wednesdays are packed all day with commuting, classes and Uni work, but my Thursdays are free so I should… Read More…

Accidental Hiatus

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! Also apologies to everyone. As I finished my first term of University I had a number of essays to write which took priority of my time and as soon as those finished I was hit with the full force of Christmas and it’s been non-stop causing an accidental hiatus in both the blog and correcting mistakes on the Memrise courses. Apologise for the radio silence up until now. I promise the New Year will come with a lot more regular posting. Corrections to Memrise and blog posts will resume from the 7th… Read More…

Announcement – Introduction of Japan Hacks

A quick announcement from Japanese Talk Online! I am currently in the process of moving to London to do an MA in translation studies! I will be continuing the blog but I’ve accidentally timed my move at the most awkward time as I also have a reunion in Japan right before term starts. So I’m moving to London Tuesday 9th, flying to Japan on Thursday 11th, flying back Saturday 27th and starting Univeristy Monday 29th. Japan Hacks! I did think of putting J-Talk on hold during this time, however I’ve decided to instead to a series of specials called Japan… Read More…

About J-Talk Online

Welcome to J-Talk Online, my name is Niffer. The aim of this blog is to help people of all levels studying Japanese. Similar to Tae Tim’s Guide to Grammar, and the JLPT Boot Camp, I would like to help people by providing good study materials, resources and motivation to continue studying. I would say I’d be a good person to turn to in terms of tips for studying because I have done a lot of self-study as well as studying at private schools and University in Japan (over 7 years in total). But I am very well aware of the… Read More…
